Pettersdotter Lejon, Mathilda Chatarina "Tilda".
Born 17/11 1865 in soldattorp No 58, Asaryd Nästagård, Asa.
Tilda died in a tram accident in McLoute, Kansas ca 1930.
Emigrated from Asaryd Nästagård 16/4 1883 to America. She left Gothenburg 16/4 1883 onboard S/S Orlando to Hull, UK., with final destination Kansas City. The journey to Hull took two days. After docking the emigrants went by train to the west coast where they boarded the big ocean ships for America.
She was 18 years old and travelled together with Peter Johansson 26, from Asa. She was registered in the passenger list as Peter's wife.
She also travelled with her uncle, August Lejon and his family.
1910 US Census:Living at 3943 Indiana Avenue in Ward 14 of Jackson County, Kansas City, MO.
1920 US Census: 1600 Poplar in Ward 15 of Jackson Co, Kansas City, MO
In the last known letter from August he wrote that Tilda lived with her son in McLouth, KS.
In US Census 1930 she lives alone in McLouth, KS.

Emerson, Benjamin J. Born ca 1854 in Sweden. Died before 1920 in Kansas City, MO.
Lived 1910 at 3943 Indiana Ave, Kansas City, MO.

Mathilda got married early the old letters tells. The question is if she was married twice - 1st time with Peter Johansson - the same man with whom she once emigrated - and had two children with him. Peter might have died, maybe of consumption as many others at this time. The 2nd time with Benjamin Emerson also from Sweden. In US Census 1910 is registered that they had been married for 22 years, had 7 children, 6 are living. That would mean that they got married in 1888.
Matilda must have been pregnant when she left Sweden. A daughter was born only half a year after arriving in Kansas City.
In a letter dated Aug 1885 she writes that her son Ture had begin to talk. In a letter dated March 1885 she wrote that Ture had died and that a daughter, 16 months old, was sick. 1893 a daughter was born. In the end of 1894 a son was born and Sept 18 1897 the son Eric was born. 1903-1904 another son was born. In 1908 the oldest - living - son delievered milk every morning to August and Johanna Lyon. Mathilda herself didn't write very often to Sweden. It was her relatives that tell about what has happened to Johanna. 1920 she was a widow and 1926 three of her sons were married, one son and two daughters still lived with her. 1930 she lived alone in McLouth, KS.

He died yesterday afternoon.

Don Emerson, 17, high school youth of McLouth, Kas., drowned yesterday
while swimming in Lake Lablanche at Tonganoxie.
This youth was a poor swimmer and became exhausted.

In 1920 US Census his occupation was mechanist at a garage.
In 1930 US Census he was 33 years old, worked as a florist in a greenhouse and lived with his family
at 5811 17 Street, Kansas City, MO.

In 1930 US Census he was 26 years old lived with his family in McLouth, KS and he was a grocery salesman.
His certificate of death tells he worked as a Scaler at Pickering Lumber Co for 30 years.It also tells he had lived in California for 55 years.

Robert EMERSON. Word has been received of the death of Robert EMERSON in Sonora, California. He is survived by a son, Robert, Downey, California; a sister, Mrs. Mary Gill, Tonganoxie. Burial was made in Sonora. Mr. EMERSON, a former resident of McLouth, operated a grocery store with his brother, Carl in McLouth several years ago.
